Overall, the theme feels quite well put together and thought through, not just randomly placed. The Hunter series of Nolimit City had a strong impact on the industry, and ever since, players have been curious and waiting for such releases in the market. In Catfish Hunters, the theme, I suppose, doesn’t have a great impact as it is very commonly used in slots. But still, the team tries to bring some elements into it to give it a connection, and it does work in its favour. How its predecessors are part of this game is both humorous and interesting. Overall, it feels like a lived-in world and not just a fishing game.
The skeleton in the corner gives a whole new personality, which I suppose is created to bring a dark, spooky effect and hint at a fish skeleton. Even though the game has cartoonish graphics, the characters somehow balance it well—not too cute nor too serious. But how about some day/night transition with creepy creators as symbols at night and multipliers getting insane in the bonus game? That’s something I was expecting. Still, the muddy theme is doing its job.
On the other hand, the mechanics in this game feel lightweight and quite slow, unlike Duck Hunters, which was filled with features and fast-paced gameplay. This game is easy to understand and has X-Ways and Imposter Wild features, but in the base game, it feels a bit boring since most of the time it becomes repetitive, not how this series started off. One interesting addition is how high-paying symbols have their own multiplier values, and with Wilds, this can lead to very high multipliers. Electrical frames enhance interaction, especially with Wilds and fish symbols.
